Recreational Vehicles
It is the season for recreational vehicles and you should take time to make sure how these units have to be insured. Since difference companies address these types of units differently you must check with your agent. The information listed below is a General Guideline and only listed to get you thinking about different items as how they may be addressed.
Electric Mobility Scooter or Electric wheel chairs: the liability and physical damage are covered by your Homeowners or farm owner’s policy.
Golf Cart: Liability is extended from your home or farm liability AS long as they are being used for golfing. Once you remove them from a golf course you need additional coverage.
ATV: Must be insured separately. Company’s treatment varies greatly and you should be talking to your agent to make sure they are properly covered for the way you use them. This includes the 4 wheel and 6 wheel types.
Lawn Tractors: are covered while on your premises but be aware that some policies exclude the liability if they are used off premises.
Electric Toy Cars & Motorized skateboards: covered on premises but if the kids or grandkids run it down the sidewalk and hit the neighbor lady you could have a coverage problem.
GEM. Cars up to 25 horse power OK on Premises
Mini Bikes, Go Carts, Motorized Scooters, Motorized Bikes, or SEGWAYS: liability on Premises; off premises you need additional coverage.
Jet Skis or Personal Watercraft: must be insured separately
While these items can provide hours of fun please insist on safe operation to avoid injury.
Have a great summer.
